Wine Stories of Dalmatia

When: May to October
Duration: Full day
From: Split and Šibenik. The program can run from Zadar as well

Skradin is magical, nestling beneath the beautiful waterfalls at the mouth of the Krka River where it meets the sea.. For more than 2,000 years it has entranced all who love beauty, music, nature and glorious wine and food!  From traditional folk klapa singing that touches your heart to the roaring waterfalls of the Skradinski Buk, Skradin is a marvelous find. And so is their wine--more than 75 years ago a local vintage Bedrica here won the grand prix award in Toulouse, France, and was declared one of the six best wines in the world!). Complimenting their outstanding viniculture are numerous authentic and original dishes.  Unique Skradin risotto definitely stands out as a labour of love taking over 12 hours to prepare! The countryside here is dotted with vineyards, each vine sitting in its own patch of fertile earth within a framework of stone walls covering the surrounding hills.  One of the meccas for wine lovers the world over is the Bedrica family home which has one of the richest collections of original tools, machines and devices for the production of alcoholic beverages in Europe that has been collected and treasured for more than two hundred years.

Our first stop is the Biblić vineyards, owned by Alen Bibić, creates a wide range of delicious wines that are emblematic of the long history of northern Dalmatia hinterland wines. Their Sangreal dry, dark red created from Syrah grapes is Alen's favorite and the pinnacle of the entire collection. After being aged in French oak for 18 months, this exquisite, award-winning wine is an aromatically raucous event filled with spices, green pepper, peppermint and dark berry fruits and robust and appealing tannins. A charming addition to any collection, this wine - suitable to age for decades - pairs delightfully with lamb, game, spicy sauces and even aged cheeses.

Alen Bibic’s Alante bar is where our wine tasting takes place. We will taste several local varieties like white Debit, rose Think Pink and reds like Riserva and Shiraz. All accompanied by original Alen Bibic finger food!

Best ending of this program is an exclusive Secret Dalmatia lunch at prestigious Pelegrini restaurant in historic Šibenik wher you will be able to enjoy modern dishes accompanied with several local wines! (optional)

Our Skradin Wine Tour will also visit the Gasperov cellar (optional extra) for a great wine tasting of the area’s most famous wine, Babic.  We will also stop in at the famous Bucavac vineyard in Primošten - a monument of hard work in Dalmatia!
