Dubrovnik has captivated kings and commoners alike for centuries! It's the quintessential walled city of legend—proud, grand and ancient. With its signature red and orange clay rooftops and massive stone ramparts framed by the dazzling blue Adriatic, our original, classic walking tour of Dubrovnik is the ultimate treat for visitors who want to see beyond the obvious and explore the architecture and history of this fabled city. Join us as we discover Dubrovnik and its golden age.
Our discovery begins as we enter the Old Town through one of two main city gates. Along the way, marvel at St. Savior's church, the mystical Franciscan and the grandiose Dominican church, the Onofrio's fountain, bell clock tower, Old city harbor and the Cathedral. Stop by one of the crown jewels of Dubrovnik, Knežev Dvor - the Rector's Palace, the most important building in the public life of the Dubrovnik Republic, the former house of Rector, the office of the government, the civic prison and a lively public square all at the same time. Today it is a city museum, recreating the room functions and holding many original works. If you are fortunate enough to be in Dubrovnik during its celebrated Dubrovnik Summer Festival, listening to a starlit classical concert in the open atrium of the Rector's Palace is an unforgettable Dubrovnik experience.
One of the real highlights of our walking tour is the famous Pharmacy at the Franciscan Monastery (1317). Inside is a fascinating collection of decorated jars filled with ancient remedies; unique measurement devices, together with alembics and mortars, all displayed in much of the same way as it was centuries ago. The Monastery, which also houses a museum with outstanding displays of sacral artefacts, was almost completely destroyed in the tragic earthquake of 1667, as well as severely damaged in the Homeland war in 1991.
