Tour description

What you'll see on this tour

Your private walking tour begins in Split’s center, on its historic foundation. What makes Split so incredible is the fact that its urban center is thriving in what was once a Roman Emperor’s Palace! Initially built as Diocletian’s palatial retirement home, it subsequently evolved into a city, inhabited continuously for 1,700 years! Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque palaces, twelve carved sphinxes carted from Egypt by the Romans and many more secrets – Split is to discover and explore!

Following your Split tour, your chauffeur will wait for you at the end of the promenade to continue your guided tour to the town of Trogir, just 20 minutes up the coast where another historical gem of the Adriatic awaits you! Discover a small islet that contains a remarkable amount of Greek, Roman and Venetian history, admire the focal point of town, the unmissable St. Lawrence Cathedral particularly known for its one-of-a-kind portal of Radovan at the entrance.

Palace of Cipico and the Tower of Kamerlengo allow you to get the sense of the noble which was present during the Venetian Republic. The entire town is a concentration of sculptural masterpieces, charming courtyards and narrow cobbled streets that inevitably lead to the wide palm-lined seaside promenade – a perfect place to soak up the golden light of Dalmatia before heading back to Split.

The portal of Radovan

One of the most impressive monuments of Trogir and Dalmatia is the western portal of the St. Lawrence Cathedral. This incredible masterpiece is the work of the master Radovan and is likely the most important monument of the Croatian medieval sculpture. Among numerous symbolic representations, the elaborate and astounding portal features representations of Adam and Eve, iconic lions, zodiac symbols representing the months of the year and scenes from the life of Christ.  While holding onto the religious frameworks of the Romanesque, this work is incredibly realistic in the Gothic French style with unique humanistic elements portraying daily life. This exquisite craftsmanship was the only mark left by Radovan while the rest of his life and career remains mystery to historians!
