Modrič Caving Adventure

Unique caving adventure for the entire family!

Completely untouched by man, the jeweled walls of Modrič cave conceal a silence and darkness so rarely present in the modern-day realm. Huge stalactites and stalagmites decorate the floors and the ceilings adding a touch of out worldly to an already wondrous experience! Located near Zadar, yet situated nicely off the beaten path, this incredible cave was discovered unexpectedly in the early 1980s by a speleologist who was searching for shelter from the strong bura winds after his bike broke down.  What serendipity, as Modrič cave is a wonderful hidden world of subterranean shapes and forms.

Tour description

Modrič cave adventure is an experience for all infatuated with nature, its splendid shapes and colors and this unique experience adds an element of hidden and unusual to every itinerary! Especially loved by families, this caving adventure is a fun and easy trip from Zadar and Šibenik, but can also be an exciting stop on your transfer from one destination to the next. Spelunkers and speleologists have described caving in the amazing Modrič cave as one the superior caving experiences in Europe!

Your guide, a local speleologist, will pick you up from your hotel to drive through the picturesque scenery of Ravni Kotari, flatlands in the Dalmatian hinterland, overlooked by Croatia's sacred mountain Velebit and its magnificent heights, reaching 1757m at the highest peak. Home to two national parks, Paklenica and Northern Velebit, the Velebit range is a beautiful place to witness.

Arriving to Modrič cave, properly equipped with all the necessary safety gear and thoroughly instructed on how to use it, begin your exploration of the cave and its narrow passages. An experience far from tourism main paths, this small (only 840 meters) long cave is so beautifully decorated that each step is a unique discovery. The cave is inaccessible to large groups of tourists, ensuring a very personal caving adventure. Prepare to crawl and squeeze your way through the magic of Modrič, lit up by the carbide light on your safety helmet! For the two hours of the tour, your guide will present speleology in its full splendor, as bare rocks get new stories light up their surfaces.

If you wish, traditional lunch in a local tavern can be organized before returning to your accommodation.

Paklenica Gorge

Sidebar Image 400x400

The southern slopes of Velebit mountain rise and tower above the coast near Zadar with some of the most dramatic alpine wilderness in Croatia. Paklenica National Park is a mecca for rock climbers that come to conquer the steep gorge cliffs of Velika Paklenica. Hikers have the choice of around 150 kilometers of well-marked trails and paths for all levels and mountaineer huts for overnighters.
An interesting site in the park is the underground bunker that was constructed by the Yugoslavian leader Tito during the conflict with Stalin. The underground tunnel that runs into the karst cliffs has been remodeled into an interactive museum, with a center for climbing, films and interactive displays.

Our tours strive to leave you with a ‘travelers’ epiphany’: a sense of having discovered the subtleties of our region which you wouldn’t discern otherwise. Whether you wish to take in the undiscovered Dalmatian hinterland, escape to the Adriatic Sea for an island-hopping cruise, or merely sip champagne under the Walls of Dubrovnik, Secret Dalmatia's exclusive small group Croatia tours exemplify travel and leisure in Croatia.
