Wines of Brač Island

A great day of wine and scenery

One of the true secrets of the Dalmatian islands, slowly being revealed to the world, is the fantastic quality of the wines they produce. Croatia grows an impressive 130 indigenous sorts of grapes and its longstanding tradition of winemaking that dates back to the ancient Greeks. Their steep, sun-soaked slopes have the perfect conditions to produce some very interesting and high-quality vintages so the islands often take the prime, and among them, the beautiful Brač, an island of silence, olive, stone, and wines. The island's wineries are located in spectacular locations, offering you the best of both worlds - quality wine and a very scenic excursion!

Tour description

Following a 50-minute public ferry ride from Split, we travel past the highest vineyards in all Croatia to make the spectacular descent to the town of Bol, famous for its Golden Horn beach. Our first appointment takes us to the first Dalmatian wine cooperative, dating back to 1903. Its current occupant, Stina winery, is modern, stylish and outstanding, and you should not only try their awarded wines but check out their award-winning bottle labels too! Truly unique!

Afterwards, we continue to visit Saša Senjković, one of the leaders of resurgence on Brač whose family wine cellar is located in the tiny village of Dračevica. Located in an old family house, the Senjković experience smacks of authenticity and tradition and the wines on offer are truly special - Bosso, Bročka Rič and the outstanding Spoza rose. Add to that the considerable culinary talent of his wife Magdalena and here is an authentic food and wine pairing not to be missed! Enjoy the tastings and subsequent lunch on a special private estate on a hilltop. Unique gastronomy treat, fabulous wines and a setting to die for!

At the end of this perfect day, you will have a nice insight into the unique relationship between the Dalmatian karst stone, its wines and the resilience of the people who create life out of the rugged and tough landscape of Brač - people like Saša who have persisted, worked hard and created magic to share with you!

Stina Wine Cellar

Sidebar Image 400x400

The word 'stina' means rock or stone in the local Dalmatian dialect and Stina winery draws its inspiration from the famous Brač stone, the one which graces illustrious buildings such as the White House in Washington. Although the history of winemaking on the island dates back to the ancient Greeks, the production has been somewhat run down over the past century. Housed in the building of an old cooperative winery dating back to 1903, Stina has spent the last few years renovating the old vineyards and replanting grapes to bring back the old tradition, turning into one of the most state-of-the-art wineries in the country.
