Modric Cave Adventure

Unique caving adventure for entire family!

Modric cave adventure is an experience for all infatuated with nature and its splendid shapes and colors, seeking more than the typical visitor and invested into discovering the unusual. Off the beaten path for many, the cave retains a sense of secrecy about it, which adds a top coating of charm to this already splendid location, discovered back in the early 80's by a speleologist looking for a hiding place from bura wind after his bike broke down.
Your guide, a local speleologist, will pick you up from your hotel to drive through the picturesque scenery of Ravni Kotari, flatlands in the Dalmatian hinterland, overlooked by Croatia's sacred mountain Velebit and its magnificent heights, reaching 1757m at the highest peak. Home to two national parks, Paklenica and Northern Velebit, the Velebit range is a beautiful place to witness.
Arriving to Modric cave, properly equipped with all the necessary safety gear and thoroughly instructed on how to use it, begin your exploration of the cave and its narrow passages. An experience far from tourism main paths, great for families with children, this small (only 840 meters) long cave is so beautifully decorated that each step is a unique discovery. The cave is not accessible for large groups, ensuring a very personal caving adventure. Prepare to crawl and squeeze your way through the magic of Modric, lit up by the carbide light on your safety helmet! For 2 hours of the tour, your guide will present speleology in its full splendor, as bare rocks get new stories to their spaces.
Available from Zadar or en route to Zadar, this tour can - as an optional extra - include some easy but scenic Paklenica hiking as well as a traditional lunch in the rural atmosphere of local villages. For all with concerns regarding spending time in small, confined spaces, we recommend selecting a different program.

Paklenica

Most likely named after 'paklina' - black pine resin which was used for coating of wooden ships as well as for traditional medicine and healing of wounds, Paklenica is one of the two oldest National Parks in Croatia and still home to some remarkable black pine and beech woods. Positioned on the southern, littoral, slopes of Velebit, underneath its highest peaks – Vaganski peak (1757m) and Sveto brdo (1753 m), it includes 2 river gorges (Small and Big Paklenica) and an amazing number of karst landscapes and breathtaking Dalmatian panoramas. The austere sceneries of grey mountains with dark evergreens framing the ridges and peaks are ideally explored on foot, but mountaineering, cycling and rock climbing are also popular in Paklenica.
