When: Year round
Duration: Full day
From: Hvar and, at extra transfer charge, from Split

Taste Croatia’s first and only wines that won the Paris World Wine Contest and the Decanter World Wine Awards in London!  Our Taste of Hvar, the island of wine tour introduces you to two of Croatia’s most distinguished winemakers and includes tastings, a culinary picnic lunch, time for a swim and two gifts—a bottle of wine or grappa and a bottle of first cold-pressed olive product or olive pate!

Hvar is one of the ancient homelands of viniculture, first begun in this sunny region by the Greeks more than 2,200 years ago.  Dalmatia’s economic, literary, artistic and political history is closely connected with wine production. In the Middle Ages, free Dalmatian towns Zadar, Šibenik, Trogir, Split and Hvar based their economy mainly on seafaring and wine production. Viticulture was at its highest peak at the end of XIX century. Today, half the region’s farmers still cultivate grapes. Plavac Mali is the pride of Hvar and the most known autochthonic grape variety in Croatia and in Dalmatia.

Award-winning wine tasting and culture with Andro Tomić

Mr. Tomić is one of the most famous wine producers in Croatia.  His wines have continues to dazzle connoisseurs all over world.  The French magazine La Revue du vin de France raved that his wines were a benchmark for the future millennium.  We will Mali Plavac, made from grapes grown on the southern hills of Hvar and his award-wining port wine, Hektor, which is an almost unheard of variety

Garage wine gala with Ivo Duboković

Meet the leading Croatian “garage” winemaker and find out what it's like to try ''2718 hours of sun in the bottle''.  Garage winemaking is the sarcastic term used by French Bordeaux wine producers and vineyard landlords to characterize “ambitious young wine newcomers without vineyard and the land.”  Duboković’s Medvid wines are the Rolls Royce of garage wines--''must have'' expensive vintages in the finest restaurants, hotels, and specialized wine shops in Croatia.

Perfect ending awaits at the olive grove near picturesque Vrisnik - home made lunch

Optional:

The southern hills of Hvar with Zlatan Plenković

Zlatan Plenković is considered to be the pioneer of Croatia wines.  As our host, he will introduce you to Hvar’s most famous varietal, Plavac Mali, and reveal how Hvar’s spectacular southern hills, the sea wind and high isolation combine to produce such memorable wine.

His Bilo Idro restaurant, perched above the sea, is a perfect venue for a relaxing afternoon. For those that would like to swim and enjoy in the crystal Hvar sea, there’re numerous hidden pebble beaches and cliffs surrounding the restaurant.
