Modern Zagreb grew out of two mediaeval settlements, Kaptol, founded in 1094 and Gradec which was proclaimed a free royal city in 1242. Today, the capital of Croatia is a lively Central European city busting with activity. The 20th century brought the Secession style to its public buildings, parks and fountains, emanating the lofty spirit of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. With a rich tradition of art, music and culture, strolling the Upper and Lower town to enjoy numerous galleries, colorful open-air markets, coffee houses, fine restaurants and parks is marvelous.

Walking Tour of Zagreb

Zagreb is a wonderful walking city! Our tour begins with the city’s most memorable sights in the fortified, mediaeval Upper Town. We’ll see the famous St. Mark's Church with its multi-colored tile roof, the baroque church of St. Catherine, St. Stephen's Cathedral, and the Parliament with the Government Palace. As we move to the Lower City, stretching around the main square with statue of Ban Jelačić, we will see the 19th century National Theater, Museum of Arts & Crafts, the University and the beautiful Zrinjevac Park with its numerous elaborate Secession (Art Nouveau) buildings.

Discover Samobor!

Just few miles outside Zagreb is Sambor, a city famous for its culinary tradition and well-preserved 19th century charm. A highlight of out tour is a guided tour of Sambor’s unique Marton Museum, internationally renowned for its collection of over 2000 individual pieces of European applied art from the 17th and 18th centuries, as well as an impressive assortment of rare Russian items. In addition to its stunning porcelains, the museum is also noted for its fine collection of silver, furniture, paintings, and glass.

The progrmas in Zagreb area can include a wine tasting itroduction to Croatian wines or a gourmet dinner at some of Zagreb's hottest restaurants like Zinfandel at famous Regent Esplanade Hotel. The programs can include more active options like hiking and cycling in the vincinity of Zagreb. multi day programs and stag parties available as well.
