The Transylvanian Mountains in Romania were the home of Vlad the Impaler, the Dracula popularized by Bram Stoker, but this is where the custom of sticking a pike in a dead man’s heart originates. Come discover the magic and mystery that still lives deep in the hills that surround the hinterland between Zadar and Sibenik, the plains of Ravni Kotar and the heart of Bukovica! It’s a mythical place where fantastic nature meets legends dating back to the pre-Roman period of Illyrian tribes. We will cross these ancient paths and descend deep in the canyons of the beautiful Zrmanja and Krupa rivers to discover a world that is fast disappearing. Monasteries and burned villages, churches and hollow caves—all bear silent witnesses to the traditions that have become the fabric of Dalmatian folk tales and customs. From warrior legends to the deeply rooted stories of werewolves and vampires, a rich treasure trove of glory and gore! Our tour begins in village of Medvidja, after which we will cross the Zrmanja River to the monastery of Krupa hidden in a dreamy valley. Then we proceed along a winding road to enjoy a breathtaking view of the Krneza stream and then continue back in the night... Several options of this tour are possible to take advantage of weather conditions, inspiration and/or specific events!
